Have you ever wondered, how in the world a company creates such huge machines used in heavy industry? There is no standard tool kit, and the answers involve high-powered, precision machining; technology where the tolerance for error is in microns.

One recent challenge was to accurately and efficiently machine a fracking pump, a monster of construction where boring and milling is heavy duty and extremely precise. FERMAT tackled the problem with its horizontal table-type boring mill WFT 13 CNC, with its rotary table, powerful headstock, and added an automatic pallet changer to minimize down time in the milling process.

FERMAT’s Horizontal Boring Mill WFT 13 CNC utilizes the newest technology and design concepts. With its powerful headstock, spindle travel of 730 mm, and the most precise table in its category, FERMAT’s WFT 13 fulfills even the most demanding production requirements.

FERMAT’s WFT 13 CNC, with its maximum table capacity of 20 metric tons, allows for high-precision machining and even contouring of heavy workpieces, utilizing four linear axes (X, Y, Z, and W) and a rotary axis (B). With FERMAT’s newer version WFT 13 R CNC, the ram can extend an additional 700 mm along axis (V), creating machining possibilities along 5 linear axes. Contributing to its strength and precision is WFT 13 CNC’s Y-axis ball screw with a diameter 80 mm and its rigid, well-designed column. Its other features include Heidenhain linear scales, a spindle thermal monitoring system, and a no stick-slip rotary table for outstanding machining precision.

FERMAT’s modular design of manufacturing and range of optional accessories allows for WFT 13 CNC and WFT 13 R CNC to be custom-made, reconfigured and o
utfitted to fit customer requirements as to space and work load. Optional accessories include an Automatic Tool Changer (ATC), an Automatic Pallet Changer System (APC), and various manual or automatic milling and facing heads, operator shields and platforms. All components are produced directly by FERMAT or supplied by world-renowned manufacturers.
