After the great success of our Nordmark video shot two years ago in Denmark, FERMAT decided to shoot another video exposé in a similar fashion, highlighting the machining and metalworking prowess of a FERMAT customer that’s won accolades, Lakics Gépgyártó Kft. (Lakics), located in the town of Kaposvár, Hungary.  The video was shot over two days, 15-16 May 2018.

Since its founding in the mid-1980s, Lakics has grown to be a dominant player in the Hungarian industrial goods market.  With 34 years’ experience in the production of large, welded steel structures, machining, and assembly, it has grown to specialize in manufacturing frames for generators and electric motors, stators, end shields, and parts for heavy equipment and industrial gearboxes.

However, its bread-winner by far (like for another of FERMAT’s metalworking customers, Nordmark) is the manufacture of highly-precise steel components for the wind power industry.  Lakics has become a leading supplier of parts that go into those enormous wind turbines cranking out megawatts upon megawatts of environmentally-friendly green energy.  In 2016, Mr. László Lakics, founder of Lakics Gépgyártó Kft., garnered an award from the Chamber of Commerce of Pécs-Baranya for his achievement in business, guaranteeing state-of-art technology and high-quality service “to all of its customers within the renewable-energy sector.”[1]

Among the machines Lakics relies on are 7 FERMAT horizontal boring mills, the newest being a FERMAT WFT 13 CNC equipped with a prototype universal milling head which has two servomotors powering its rotation and positioning along the A and C axes.  (The spindle is still driven by the headstock spindle, like traditional milling heads.)  FERMAT’s prototype universal milling head, together with the faster movement of linear guideways, enables Lakics to machine a workpiece in half the time it used to.  Needless to say, Lakics is very happy with its new machine tool investment.

The shoot

In the upcoming video, you’ll be taken on a tour of the metalworking process and witness how a simple steel is transformed, step by step, into a complex weldment machined to perfection on FERMAT machine tools; an expertly-crafted component for a wind turbine.

As well, there’s an interview with the CEO of the company, and a peek into the firm’s original manufacturing area, where the founder of Lakics dedicates his time planning and designing the development and manufacture of new wind turbines—it’s an incredible hobby.  One of his prototypes is already cranking out electricity at his home.

The logo of Lakics contains the slogan “We love steel;” from the upcoming video, you’ll see just how true that is.

Cheers!

It wasn’t all work and no play for our FERMAT film crew in the heartland of Hungary.  Having called it a wrap, they ventured to a fantastic upscale pub, a local watering hole where they rewarded themselves in fine fashion for a hard day’s work and a job well done.
