Rodney Zimmerman, Sales Manager at LUCAS, a FERMAT Group company, on a recent tour of FERMAT’s manufacturing facilities in Prague and Brno with potential customers from the US. His story, in his own words and photos.

July 3, 2017

As a native Floridian, I grew up with the attitude that air conditioning is an essential element of modern life.  I have carried that sentiment into adulthood, and into the Great Lakes area of the United States where I now live.  I run my air constantly in the house and in the car, with very few exceptions.  Heck, I even run my A/C when I’m driving and have the windows down!

I recently spent two weeks in the Czech Republic on a business trip.  There are many fascinating historical buildings and characters associated with this country.  I never stopped learning, the entire trip.

But, I also had to learn to live without air conditioning.  It was a tough lesson to learn, and I had many fun arguments with my Czech hosts who were amazed at my inability to live without it.  It was all in good fun.  My previous trip to the country took place during winter months.  This visit was more enjoyable and I could not have asked for better weather.  Our hosts were kind and helpful, and we took in all the scenery, culture, and great food that Czech Republic has to offer.

The grandeur of the Old Town Square, and the Prague Castle and Church, are breath-taking, and I find something new to appreciate in the details, with each visit.  The beer, the schnitzel, the goulash, the cobble-stone streets, the street musicians – all work together to treat my senses to this beautiful country.  But Kofola?  Come on, are you kidding?

I gained a new appreciation for walking….and walking shoes.  Oh, and, I must admit, on my first commute home from work after I returned to the US, I turned off the A/C button, and vented the outside air – but, shhhhh – don’t tell my Czech hosts that!!!!
