The Czech Republic is 6th in the world in the Global Peace Index

Vision of Humanity_Global Peace Index 2016_Czech Republic is 6 out of 163

That’s not too shabby, to be ranked 6th out of 163 countries in Vision of Humanity’s Global Peace Index, which quantifies, aggregates and summarizes variables accounting for a country’s level of peace enjoyed by its population.  The categories examined range from hard-to-nail-down perceptions of criminality and relations with neighboring countries to more rock-solid statistics on homicide, violent crime, and deaths from internal and external conflicts.

What is it all about?

As explained on its website, the organization’s essential purpose is to create a robustly analytical, measurable, reliable body of data facilitating a better understanding of peace, and ideally, how to achieve it.

Vision of Humanity is a strong proponent of the need to further study, advocate and act on peace. It groups together a number of interrelated initiatives focused on global peace which enjoy the support of a wide range of philanthropists, business people, politicians, religious leaders and intellectuals. It brings a strategic approach to raising the world’s attention and awareness around the importance of peace to humanity’s survival in the 21st century.

Being rather competitive…

Vision of Humanity_Global Peace Index 2016

Although 6th place in world is a nice distinction, here at FERMAT, a leading European manufacturer of horizontal boring mills, cylindrical grinders, machine tools and accessories, we like to win.  Why settle for a rank of 6th out of 163 places?  Surely, in some other categories, we beat those other 5 countries that bested us in this amiable, love-filled index of social congruity and peace.  What about Iceland, Denmark, Austria, New Zealand, and Portugal?  Where do we clean their clocks?

Manufacturing_value added as percentage of GDP 2015

You can take it to the bank.

The World Bank, an expert number-cruncher, has released its latest data on manufacturing, value added as a percentage of a country’s GDP.  And, where do the other 5 countries that outdid the Czech Republic in its level of overall tranquility?  The closest is the 3rd most peaceful, Austria, which probably benefits from its proximity to FERMAT’s golden land of modern manufacturing and healthy serenity.  But, as you can see, the 1st place winner in the Global Peace Index, Iceland, falls into a frigid sea.  It achieved less than half of the Czech Republic’s performance in 2015!  Peacenik slackers.

However, that’s not the end of the story.  There’s one standard by which the Czech Republic is the absolute undisputed world champion, for 23 years running—Per Capita Beer Consumption.

As report by the Japanese integrated beverages company, Kirin Company, Ltd., a subsidiary of Kirin Holdings Company, Ltd., which very diligently compiles such data for sharp business decisions, heralds the Czech Republic’s enthusiasm in supporting its national drink, beer.  Which, by the way, helps to explain its very high standing in peaceful well-being, 6th in the world, and its outstanding drive in manufacturing, value added % of GDP.  A well-nourished palate leads to harmony and success.

KIRIN Beer Consumption per capita worldwide Czech Republic WINS

As Kirin points out on its website, the “Czech Republic led all other nations in per-capita beer consumption for the 23rd consecutive year.”  Hurray!  We win!
