The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain… but also in the Basque Country, but never in a Bodega

January 19, 2017

Mr. Jan Ferenc, FERMAT’s Director of Sales, and Mrs. Zdena Hoblova, FERMAT’s Area Sales Manager for Spain, took a quick trip to the Basque Country last week to visit a potential customer interested in FERMAT’s powerful and precise horizontal boring mills.

Basque Country

The jet-setting duo landed in the capital of Spain’s industrial north, Bilbao, a major city in the province of Biscay in the autonomous community of the Basque Country.  With a strong manufacturing base, as well as bustling service sector, it economically outperforms its Iberian neighbors.  Blessed with lots of natural resources and a major-league port (it is the 4th busiest port in Spain after Algeciras, Barcelona and Valencia), Bilbao has risen from a hard-to-conquer corner of Europe to a spot attracting investment from across the world.

Bilbao port

Though strongly geared towards no-nonsense, hardworking commercial activity, it still offers beautiful sites and gems of culture, monuments, and museums for our diligent machine tool manufacturers on a splendid working vacation.   One such example is the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a temple of modern and contemporary art.  It was a fitting stop for our two FERMAT pilgrims, representatives of a company that combines iron and steel with the latest technologies to make complex CNC horizontal boring mills and other machine tools which are used to create our modern existence.  Without machine tools, there’s no modernity… and we’d be stuck looking at early 18th century art.

Although it looks kind of like a cat, it’s actually a big, flower-filled dog guarding the entrance to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

The customer they called on was Maquinaria GRECO, a leading machine tool dealer in Spain with over 35 years of experience supplying new and used machines throughout the country.

Greco Maquina Herramienta

The machines which caught Greco’s eye were FERMAT’s large, powerful, and precise floor-type horizontal boring mills, its WRF series with spindle diameters of 130 mm, 150 mm, or 160 mm.  These are industrial-size heavyweight sluggers that punch deep into workpieces of iron or steel, utilizing their long spindle extension of 730 mm or 1,000 mm and their hefty ram stroke of 900 mm, 1,000 mm, or 1,200 mm.  Like all of FERMAT’s horizontal boring mills, they guarantee excellent circular interpolation; and outfitted with FERMAT’s extremely precise CNC rotary tables with load bearing capacities of up to 100 metric tons, FERMAT’s WRF series makes light work of any large and heavy workpiece.  FERMAT’s WRF 130/150/160 CNC is the perfect choice for massive, heavy-duty machining.
